MEET JOE VENN. THE OMEGA DOG.
Joe Venn is down on his luck. A Marine and police detective lieutenant, he was kicked off the Chicago force for getting a little heavy-handed while cleaning up the streets. Now he’s eking out a living as a private eye in downtown Manhattan, on a road to nowhere.
His life’s about to get a whole lot worse…
When Venn is arrested for a murder he didn’t commit, he’s given a choice.
Track down a missing professor of neurochemistry, in an operation that’s so politically sensitive even the FBI can’t be allowed to touch it.
Or face life in prison.
Dr Beth Colby is having a bad day, too.
She’s used to dealing with death, in her job as a physician at one of New York City’s busiest hospitals. But two people she knows have just died mysteriously in the space of twenty-four hours.
And before the day’s out, Beth herself will become the target of a shocking attack.
Events conspire violently to throw Venn and Beth together, and soon they’re locked into a desperate race against time to uncover the secret of Professor Lomax’s disappearance.
What’s the connection with the research he’s conducting into groundbreaking neuromodulatory drugs?
And why are Venn and Beth being hunted by not one but two professional assassins – as well as by the most powerful organized crime family in New York?
As the chase spreads from Manhattan to New England and back again, and the net closes relentlessly in on Venn and Beth, each of them must use their unique set of skills to the maximum.
Not just to uncover the terrible secret so many people are desperate to keep hidden.
But also simply to stay alive…
Relentless in its action, terrifying in its suspense, and riddled with twist upon shocking twist, OMEGA DOG is a heartstopping rollercoaster ride that will thrill and chill you in equal measure.
OMEGA DOG is the first book in the bestselling Joe Venn crime thriller series.
Tim Stevens is the author of the highly acclaimed thrillers RATCATCHER, DELIVERING CALIBAN, JOKERMAN, SEVERANCE KILL and ANNIHILATION MYTHS.

If you like a book that is like a bad B grade Movie, then this is right up your alley! Every cliche ever written is crammed into this Ho Hum story. Apparently the Author does all his research by watching schlocky B Grade movies and he repeats all the nonsense you see in them. Cars that blow up at the drop of the hat, cars that you can easily hot wire, shooting people in the arms to disarm them etc. Very unrealistic to the point you do not care about the outcome or the characters. I will be giving Tim Stevens a pass from now on, as this is the 3rd disappointment with an author who used to write pretty good thrillers.Product details

Omega Dog Joe Venn Crime Action Thriller Series Book 1 edition by Tim Stevens Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Crime action novel is not what I usually read but I got a chance to read this one at discounted rate. This made it very interesting and important to me to finish it and give an accurate review of this book. Grips you from the very first page, soon you will be cheering for your favorite characters, you'll be trying to give advice to keep your character safe and it's an awesome book. The characters, as well as environment are real and believable. The true gift of a great story, the ability it put the reader into the story and have them "feel" everything.
This may be a Reacher Rival but I only was able to get through chapter two of Reacher without thinking it was hokey, so I enjoy this book so much more. I may try it again at a later date but for right now this is my favorite of the two.
***I am grateful to have received this product for a discounted rate in exchange for my personal, honest, unbiased and non-compensated review.

I'm also a thriller writer on , so I read books in the genre continuously. Rather than talk about the plot or story, I thought I'd talk about other aspects. Every once in a while I come across one that stops me in my tracks and I have to look at the way it was written. The story elements or "tricks of the trade" he used to propel the plot forward, add characterizations, deepen the way we view the good guys or bad guys. This is one such book. The plotting is excellent and explosive, moving the story forward by realistic degrees. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Characters are believable without being over the top and yanking you out of the "reader's world" with disbelief. Enough realistic detail to add interest without boring you with minutia. An excellent read and hats off to you, Tim Stevens.
This a great read. It will take more then an afternoon because it is a longer book but so worth it. Some crime action books are straight forward and half way through the book you already know what is going to eventually happen where this one kept me intrigued till the very end. I think the characters are very well developed and it gives you closure. The authors last chapter does give you a hint of a possible characters future maybe in his next book but it doesn't leave you completely hanging that you have to get the next book right away. I will be getting the next book because I think it was an excellent read. Also there isn't a bunch of overly gory details like some of these books for anybody that was wondering.
I received this book at a discount/free in exchange for my honest review of this book.
Good plot reasonably well told, but there are some glaring problems that detract. There were some continuity issues, such as the main character destroying the same cell phone twice. But the language problem throughout was the most bothersome. The author is clearly British, and unfortunately British terminology keep cropping up in what is supposed to be an American story featuring a hard-boiled American PI. Things such as describing a couple as "still in their dressing gowns," or the bad guys getting info about a rental car from "the car hire shop." British phraseology crops up continually and badly disrupts the flow. Other authors have overcome this. For instance, I wasn't aware Lee Child was British when I first started reading the Reacher series (although there was one turn of phrase that kind of troubled me) and only learned his nationality later from an interview. By contrast, with Stevens there's no doubt. I liked the story well enough that I'd like to read other Joe Venn books, but not until the author becomes more conversant with American phraseology as Child has done.
British spellings of words although Venn is an American, and an ex-Marine. I believe he has had Dr. Colby throw her cell phone away twice now, near the 48% read point. I have no clue where the cell phone referenced around that 48% mark came from. He found Dr. Colby' s address in a second doctor's Filofax under the letter "k", although a third doctor's last name was where it belonged in the alphabetized contacts. She goes by "Beth", and that has been misspelled once. Some character is driving though an area of woods or crops rather than through it. (Leaving the "r" out is an easy mistake for anyone to make, but there were too many other errors in this book and wanted to explain why I only gave it three stars as much as I possibly could). One sentence ends with the word "the". Story is great, full of surprises. One character has no conscience, and different variations of the "f" word get used once in a while. Super bad guy is talking to someone on the phone twice when he, the very bad guy, gets referred to as Venn. I did finish the book.
